Rehm Angus was founded in 1994 as a family farm in West Central Arkansas.
The farm is located on 134 acres of land that joins the Mount Magazine
National Park on the south and is bordered by Big Shoal Creek on the north.
On the east and west we are bordered by horses, one side being a
breeding farm and the other side is a horse camp.
The original herd of cattle consisted of fourteen commercial bred heifers
purchased at the Spur Ranch sale and four registered cows purchased at the
Arkansas Angus Sale.
Since that time we have grown to about 35 head of registered females.
We still keep about a half dozen commercial cows to produce steers for beef
and for the kids to show at the local fair.
Our bulls and heifers are culled at weaning by using performance data, eye
appeal and temperament. The ones that we consider worthy are fed a
growth ration that we have mixed especially for this purpose. We try
to get as much growth as possible without adding too much fat. When
the animals reach yearlings we again evaluate and cull. Any bulls that
do not pass soundness or fertility exams are either sold for beef or sent to
the stock-yards. We do not sell cattle to individuals that we would not use
in our own herd!
Our goal is
to produce a uniform herd of moderate-sized animals that are fertile,
productive and easily handled. Many of our cattle will stand to be
scratched in the fields and all will follow the rattle of a bucket or paper
sack.
